Matthew wrote what is the first Gospel of the Bible. It is one of the three synoptic gospels, and relates how the Messiah, Jesus, rejected by Israel, sent out his disciples to preach the gospel to the whole world. It was probably written after 70AD.

Here, we have the Olivet Discourse which introduces many issues. The parable of the budding fig tree contrasts with the barren fig tree. We are presented with an apocalypse, but is it one, has it already happened? Is it yet to come? The Word is the rock upon which the faithful live.

Here, we have praise for coming salvation. Precisely the nature of salvation is disputed by theologians of different religions and groups.

It is a praise psalm, extolling the virtues of embracing God.

Bible Quote Jul 4th Proverbs 14:34

Proverbs were almost left out of the Christian Bible because some of them oppose each other. Wisdom is like that. Wikipedia has a theory regarding Proverbs that pre exilic ones differ from post exilic ones. The underlying belief being that Greek Philosophy had influenced Jewish though so that God became part of creation after wisdom. Who writes that stuff?

This particular proverb is from the sayings of Solomon. Until the 21st century, archaeology had not proven the house of David existed. So those writing of their doubt in authorship made bold claims.

Jeremiah was the second of the latter prophets and he lived from 627 BC to 582 BC, saying little of cheer to his audience.

The background to Jeremiah is briefly described in the superscription to the book: Jeremiah began his prophetic mission in the thirteenth year of king Josiah (about 627 BC) and finished in the eleventh year of king Zedekiah (586), "when Jerusalem went into exile in the sixth month." During this period, Josiah changed the Judahite religion, Babylon destroyed Assyria, Egypt briefly imposed vassal status on Judah, Babylon defeated Egypt and made Judah a Babylonian vassal (605), Judah revolted but was subjugated again by Babylon (597), and Judah revolted once more. This revolt was the final one: Babylon destroyed Jerusalem and its Temple and exiled its king and many of the leading citizens in 586, ending Judah's existence as an independent or quasi-independent kingdom and inaugurating the Babylonian exile.

Here, Jeremiah is poetically presenting God's message. God was bringing judgement on Jerusalem, and Jeremiah was calling on Jews to repent.

Paul was writing to Rome from Corinth. He had Tertius of Iconium write this while he dictated. Paul had established a number of churches around the Greek seas in the decade leading up to the letter. Rome was the then undisputed capital of the 'known world.'

Here, Paul writes of humble service in the body of Christ.

Bible Quote Jul 1st Zechariah 14:9

“The LORD will be king over the whole earth. On that day there will be one LORD, and his name the only name.” Zechariah 14:9 NIV

Zechariah is the last book of the Old Testament, and this chapter is the last chapter. The author has dated his work to about 515 BC, which is post exile. His family seems to have been priests.

Here, Zechariah is writing of the time to come, the Day of the Lord, which will not end.
