“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.” - James 4:10
Modern health movements don’t admit it. There is strength in service, in not being the highest calling. They school people doing things for themselves. That can be very effective when one is young and in a position to be firm against the change which swirls around the world. But doing things for yourself is ultimately unsatisfying. In a competition against the world, only one is world champion, which means many are losers. If they view themselves that way.
But service is rewarding and everyone can be good at it. Pride can be found in service. A good parent, a good employee, a good neighbour are valuable. The idea of being the best parent is absurd against the need for sleep.
It is wonderful to be a world class athlete or performer. It is also an indulgence. Learn about the one who has given you life and blessings. Give thanks for your gifts and opportunities. And if in service you fall down, it is ok to get right back up and try again. In many cases, world class performers who thank God are greater. The elite have done the exercise, but the Lord has given them the gifts.
